Description:

The City of Wilmington is found in New Castle County, Delaware. As of July 2016, the city had a population of 199,827 people. It is the county seat of New Castle County.

Wilmington covers approximately 19 square miles (50km2). It is bordered by Newark Bay to the north; Brandywine Creek to the south; Christina Lake to the west; and Claymont to the east.

Wilmington is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Wilmington is home to the University of Delaware, one of three state universities in Delaware. The university has approximately 16,000 students per semester. It is well-known for its academic excellence as well as its athletic programs.

Wilmington is also home to the International Center of Photography, founded in 1936, and the National Museum of American Art, founded in 1960.

Wilmington is the birthplace of author Stephen King. He spent his childhood in Leeds, Maine, just outside Portland.

Wilmington is served by Wilmington/Newark Airport, which serves commercial flights. Amtrak trains stop here daily.
