Richmond ( RITCH-mənd) is the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. Incorporated in 1742, Richmond has been an independent city since 1871. The Society for Classical Learning was founded to promote human flourishing through classical Christian education. Since the mid-1990s, The Society for Classical Learning (SCL) has facilitated thinking and discussion among professionals connected with Christ-centered education in the liberal arts tradition. Together with classicists, teachers, and lifelong learners , The Society provides a space for individuals to share their ideas, experience, and wisdom with each other as they deepen their understanding of classical theory and apply it within everyday, real-world education. The Society is committed to historic Christianity as expressed in the Nicene Creed and to exploring the relationship of Christ to the broader culture.
